A skunkworks project is one typically developed by a small and loosely structured group of people who research and develop a project primarily for the sake of innovation. The term typically refers to technology projects, and originated with Skunk Works, an official alias for the Lockheed Martin Advanced Development Programs (formerly Lockheed Advanced Development Projects). A skunkworks project often operates with a high degree of autonomy and unhampered by bureaucracy, tasked with working on advanced or secret projects.  A notable example of a skunkworks project is the first Apple Macintosh computer.

This site is for those intrested in working together in developing the tools needed to a make United Way the leading nonprofit in New Media.

The learning curve is steep on Drupal. Showing other United Ways to how we approached it I hope to make it easier for others to get started. This is a very basic set of instructions and is aimed at the already tech savvy. Hopefully we can improve these as we go.

This can be loaded into your SQL database using the backup module if you already have it installed.

Once installed it is very important that you immediately change the username and password of the administrator. If you do not someone could gain access and do all kinds of harmful stuff.

UWA Tagging Policy

Tagging
Common tags and tagging structure should be used across social bookmarking sites (e.g., Delicious), blogs, multimedia sites (e.g., Flickr and YouTube) and Twitter.

Social bookmarking sites: Spaces are typically not allowed in social bookmarking tags. For this reason, tags must be one phrase. Capitalize the first letter of each word to help with the display of the tag.

OpenID for United Ways

I am hoping we can have a conversation about how we could use OpenID ( http://openid.net/ ) for United Way's websites. As more United Ways start using Drupal we will also share the capability to allow users to login using their OpenID. This would be great for our users who don’t see boundaries between United Ways. If they were using an OpenID they could go to any United Way, login and their profile information would follow them.
